ANTONY CORSO

Antony Corso was born and raised in New York City. He is a descendant of Bernhardt Lopatka, a 19th-Century Russian master portrait painter and engraver who produced commissions for Russian and German nobility. He is also descended from Roman-Calabrian Italian poets and painters. His uncle, Gregory Corso, is recognized as an important 20th-Century American poet.

Corso attended the Art Students League of New York, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Barnes Foundation. Several extended stays in Europe allowed him to research Old Master techniques in painting, while he provided art instruction and accepted commissions. Extensive travel gave him an opportunity to study great examples of painting, sculpture and architecture, increasing his passion for drawing and painting the human figure. For more than a decade Corso maintained exclusive representation in his art gallery, A Corso Paintings & Sculpture on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Corso's awards include those of the City of New York Cultural Affairs, the Nessa Cohen Memorial Award, Artist's Space/New York City and the SUNY/Albany Statewide Competition. His work has been featured in solo shows, group exhibitions and at numerous galleries including: Capsule Gallery, New York, NY, The Empire Collection, New York, NY; La Galleria at La Mama, New York, NY; Hankook Gallery, New York, NY; Robertson Gallery, Beverly Hills, CA; Riggs Gallery, La Jolla, CA; Labyrintus, Budapest, Hungary. His work in public collections includes those of the United Nations, the Port Authority of New York, Chemical Bank and the American Broadcasting Company. Corso exhibited at the 2003 Biennale Internazionale Dell'Arte Contemporanea, Firenze Italia.

“As a painter and sculptor coming out of a century of modern art where color and form have been analyzed, broken down, reconstructed and flattened, I push the envelope of perception. I compose a geometry of form in my paintings and sculpture and find new concepts and solutions. Line breathes life into my work— it’s what makes the inanimate animate.”
